Projects > Serpent Audio SB4001 Buss Compressor
The SB4001 is a full-featured buss compressor for the 500-series or 51x Alliance formats. The SB4001 is based off of Serpent Audio’ s (previously Shadow Audio) SB4000, which was in turn based on the classic SSL buss compressor design. The SB4001 adds a host of new features, including an external sidechain input, tube-style harmonic drive, wet/dry blend, and auto release. After a limited DIY run (September 2011), the SB4001 is now available only as an assembled unit.
“Hey guys I’ve had a few days with mine now and I will say its awesome! The sound of the comp is probably the best I’ve heard of the VCA/SSL type compressors. And it is for sure the most flexibly of that kind I know of. I love the lowend on it and flexibility compared to a standard SSL buss. Grind is very cool! It adds more weight to a mix and color. So it really is like 2 different sounding compressors in one.” -Dan Deurloo (via Gearslutz)
