Although the concept of an electronic tremolo is decades old, the idea of an optical one is fairly new. Designed by MAKE magazine contributor Sean Michael Ragan, this optical tremolo is novel and customizable take on the classic tremolo circuit. The audio path is completely passive, incorporating only a pot and photoresistor. Power is needed only to run a small DC motor for the tremolo element and an LED.
